Happy (at least I'm trying to be)

Something a friend said has got me thinking. Am I starting to treat this blog as a dumping ground for negative feelings? (eg endless pangs of emo-ness). If you're looking to be uplifted and inspired you should totally check out Katie Sokoler's blog. She's awesome! (I especially loved this post.)

Anyway this year's CNY ended pretty eventless save for the annual home visits among college friends. But somehow last year was so so much more fun! Either it was due to
  • lack of any element of surprise (after being together for 1.5 years we've sort of been to each other's places and got to known our families)
  • lack of wonder (omg last year when we 1st arrived at teckhong's house we were practically screaming our lungs out in the car simply awestruck)
  • lack of traffic jam! (last year there was this major major traffic jam from my place to teckhong's place; across the klang river; around 2 hours I think and we used to joke that it would be faster for BS to balik kampung @ Taiping) during the jam we 3G-ed each other and screamed even more in the car haha
  • lack of use of public transport. Ever since TH and SH almost always have had cars, KTM became sort of a pantang thing; so used to being so comfortable and not having to wait for that oh-so-punctual KTMtrain (which has further changed its timetable to 30 mins per ride! T.T)
  • lack of kakis. Takde Lih Yi and Wan ying!!! Lan sok queen and fastest speaker turned out to be vital.. Miss you guys le....
And also went for HKU scholarship interview last Sunday @ Traders Hotel KL. OMG can you believe the taxi fare from KLCC to the hotel was RM 15??? (was only a 5 min walk) and around 75 people from M'sia were interviewed; Too bad I'm not the outspoken type... Anyway will pray for the best!

Yay tomorrow's a public holiday! No work haha ^^

p.s. congrats to Cheeling for acing her STPM! Good luck with uni application :)

Jitters.

I. AM. SO. FREAKING. SCARED. RIGHT. NOW.

A2 results out tomorrow at 10am!

More updates soon, no mood at the moment. Reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Regretted watching the on screen adaptation first 'cause the actors' faces are now imprinted in my brain cells

Reading is my one and only escape.

I'm such a slacker.

Seriously. I wish I could compartmentalize all my thoughts, feelings into different sections, because I really don't know where to start.
  • Taiwan was fun fun fun! Shopping was great, (maybe my next post will be a proper recommendation of places to go in taiwan) the friends I've made were awesome and so enthusiastic! Plus the food, OMG. If I didn't practice self control I'd be so obese by now T.T
  • I've not been reading books lately, I feel so empty and hopeless. What is my problem?
  • Worked as a kindergarten helper for a week now. The work's not bad, but taking care of kids can sometimes be pretty physically taxing as well, since you still have to keep an eye on them 24/7. But then again they can surprise you with their cuteness! ^^
  • Just came back from edu fair in KLCC. Now considering unis that have never crossed my mind! Haha time for more research =)
There are two things I dearly miss right now, which is 1) Taiwan 2) College. I wish I could do it over and over and over again. No wonder kids like merry go rounds ^^

Off to look for movies on PPS! Hopefully it'll get my mind off all unimportant worldly matters o.O

Zebra Cake- 2nd attempt and success!

Just finished writing my personal statement (FINALLY, after a long period of fickle mindedness, I finally chose to apply for biomedical engineering for UCAS) so I'm pretty exhausted for words... So here are pics to fill you in! Recipe from Lily's Wai Sek Hong; awesome food blog! For full recipe click here.

I know I sound like a total failure, but in my history of baking cakes, none has ever risen this high!

It looked pretty distorted after it was done... anyone knows why?
But at least it was damn spongy!

Ok going to sleep now ^^

omg it's 2009 already!

and it has been one week of college! This year there seems to be quite a crowd at the Inti Subang enrolment week, with quite a number of students from China based on their thick accent.

And i figured that college really inspires me; suddenly I'm all hyped up to join Toastmasters Club, which i hope can improve my public speaking (yes, I'm a really shy person *blink blink*) take Chinese for AS in cambridge a levels and choose Dentistry as my lifetime career...

Then after doing some research on the Net, I found out I was still underage for the toastmasters club, besides, most of the members are those who are out at work, not students and definitely not midgets like me who could get a child's ticket for movies T.T

as for Chinese language for a levels, I have to translate an english essay into chinese! When in fact I heard that it was easier than form 5 chinese...

and when I told Tiffy I was considering dentistry, she was like "eew, you have to smell people's bad breath every day"...

ok la not EVERYONE has bad breath right? and at least I can talk to people everyday (when I get socially deprived I get all loony easily. and paranoid. trust me.)

and Tiffy said "that's the problem, dentists always try to talk to the patients when we are lying down there with our mouth open, like how are we supposed to answer them?"

(sorry these are not the exact words of Tiffany Foo because I don't save msn messages and I have short term memory. Tiffany Foo Sze Yee, please don't sue me.)

I remembered last time when I went to get my braces tightened, my orthodontist would be really busy talking on the phone + texting on ANOTHER handphone + fix my braces all at the same time!

AND he didn't wear his surgical mask since he was chatting on the phone. AND all his saliva ended up where? as gravity would tell you, it all ended up in my wide open mouth. EWWWW

I'm telling you braces are not to be done without deliberate consideration or based on random notion or 'cause it looks like a cute accessory on your teeth. It can get really, really painful the 1st few days after tightening. So eat more anchovies/ikan bilis/kang hu kia 'cause I heard that they can make sure your teeth stay straight. Or so I've heard.

Sorry no pics for this post and it's a bunch of random, disorganized rambling! I'm trying out different styles of writing, and partially 'cause I'm really tired and lazy of posting pics and I'm having sore throat now, so. And by the way still no mood to study.

so how was your 1st week of the year?

JPA interview (this is the LEAST creative title I have ever posted...*sob*)

Forwarded a month's worth of 4 days leave to attend this interview (FYI, will be going back this Sunday morning and working till 27th of April..)

Mine was held in Nilai (instead of Putrajaya) on 3rd April. Well initially I was torn between the choice of Nilai and Putrajaya but somehow I felt that Nilai sounded closer... so much for good intuition -.-"

Luckily I do have an understanding dad, who, as to not make matters worse (and to save my "face") commented that:-
"Haiya Nilai easier to find la, Putrajaya too many precincts, after cannot find then waste time"

Thanks dad!

Well, fast-forwarding past all the crap to the interview part, it was actually tougher than expected. Before entering the boardroom (sounds like The Apprentice eh?) I was with the basic impression that the self-intro would be in Malay while the discussion in English (this should be the standard script I guess), well mine turned out to be a tad bit more complicated than that...

Ok here's our seating:- (6 people altogether in 1 session)

(1) - Female, Chinese, Actuarial Science
(2) - Male, Chinese, Aerospace Engineering in Germany
(3) - Female, Chinese (Me!!), Food Science/Dietetics
(4) - Female, Chinese, Engineering
(5) - Male, Malay, Medicine
(6) - Male, Indian, Actuarial Science

Ours was split into 4 sessions: -
1. Self intro in English: Name, origin (sounds like we're some kind of animal), family background, etc.
2. Discussion (more like debate) in English: title was advantages/disadvantages of studying local/overseas (I got the advantages of studying overseas...lucky me ^^)
3. Discussion in Malay: asking why did I choose that course, the country I would like to go to, why, the future job prospects after taking that particular course, what overseas uni I have in mind
4. Knowledge-based questions in Malay: the difference between raja/sultan, the sequence of states (negeri) in which they pick the next Agong, number of governmental depts, the names of several Head of Depts...

I was like, heck.

The 4th session really got me... Honestly, I read more CLEO and StarTwo than the front page of newspapers! Besides, these info aren't mentioned in the papers THAT often! Argghh... -_-"

Walau bagaimanapun (don't know where that came from), not all interviews are like that... Depends alot on the interviewer; according to my friends who went to the Putrajaya interview, they (there are usually 2) just asked them to do a self-intro and basically discussion that required simple thinking but not those that would test one's knowledge!

My interview was 10am, the 8am batch got Proton questions... about its engines, its chronology... (as in which model to which model)

So basically it's different every time and every place, so future JPA applicants, just take note ^^

Rojak-ed

Precisely decribing my feelings right at this moment...something like post-SPM results aftermath. For those who have taken up courses at colleges, it's okay for them, but for people like me who have put off the ULTIMATE task of actually making a choice by using the (seemingly cliched) phrase:

"I don't know what to study yet wor.

See how my SPM results go."

That seemed like a good answer to give when people (note: esp. nosey relatives and overly kiasu friends' parents) asked me that question before the SPM results were out. Now I'm really stuck between pursuing my interests, my strong subjects and my friends' suggestions.

Arrgghh, frustrating.

You see, my results are somewhere in the middle, where it's not good enough to apply for a full scholarship and yet not poor enough to be moping about it.

Just see for yourself.

~*sorry for the smudged (or rather, photoshopped) particulars; I prefer Librainy to be my only known name--nice to be mysterious for a change :P*~

You see, I'm 1 A1 away from getting a full scholarship if I take SAM at Taylor's (which I was initially planning to... I mean the June/July intake, I forgot which) I seriously am thankful for even getting an A2 for chinese since it's my worst subject, but as for Moral, I'm just dumbfounded. Like, my bio was worse than my moral! I was expecting A2 for that, but not moral, like what do you expect me to do? I memorized everything, put my brain and hands to work, and that was it! Heck, I didn't even know what I did wrong!

Sorry for the sudden outburst of energy--it was just a ball of fury (sounds familiar?) at the pit of my stomach, nothing much. and sorry for the sarcasm too, in case you didn't notice.

I'm just utterly confused and in no mood to write an emotionally uplifting post, which is what I should to to attain a Kenny Sia-like status in the blogging industry.

I'll pray hard tonight--He's the only one (other than myself) who will really understand.

Mind Business

I've finally figured out the meaning of "it's all in the mind"... It means if you can't think positively, don't think AT ALL. It will really kill you.

I KNOW i'm in the midst of SPM. I KNOW i have accounts and chinese paper to go... but i really have to vent my frustration onto this post. Crap if i may, at least i won't think about IT that much...

The problem is, i think too much. The more i calculate, the less marks I'm getting for Biology. So far I've lost about 10 marks, give and take i might lose 20 marks in total... Okay why doesn't blogging help me solve my dilemma?

Sorry, if you're looking for quality in this post, it practically has as much quality as... erm... an apple that has been left to oxidise for three days? (ok i'm bad at simile)

But i've figured that the more you think of something in the NEGATIVE way, the worse things get... But thankfully I know I have limited brain capacity so this frustration will stay in my mind for a max of 2 days... then i'll PROBABLY forget it all...

But heck, who doesn't want to get A1 for SPM?

Ok i think blogging therapy is not working for me... The other alternatives:
1. Retail therapy (i think money is unrenewable "energy"...so might not b worth the trouble)
2. Book therapy (i BADLY want to read "My family and other animals" by Gerald Durrell but I'm still having my chinese exam... my brain has to be "mandarinised"...)
3. Movie therapy (THIS will do jz fine...)
4. Food therapy (i'll have to bear the consequences of growing laterally then....)

ok. I'd better move on to movie therapy.
