You are beautiful

For the past two months, I've always worn contact lenses to work at kindergarten; but on a whim I decided to wear plain glasses maybe just for this week; partially to save tons of hassle wearing and removing it too ^^

General responses from the kids:

~杨老师,为什么你戴眼镜? 你近视了啊? Teacher, why are you wearing specs? Have you become short sighted?

~你是不是看电视机看得很近? Have you been sitting too close to the TV?

~你的眼珠叻? Where are your eyeballs? HAHA this was understandably from a 4-year old (youngest age of children in the kindergarten)

Generally girls were more critical with my looks:

~我不喜欢你戴眼镜,戴了丑丑。。I don't like you wearing specs, it makes you look ugly...
~你没有戴眼镜比较美... You look better without specs...

But there was this one guy who flattered me ^^

~你的眼镜好~~~美哦!! Your specs are super pretty!! *concludes his statement with an awed expression*

The aforementioned kid. A 6-year old. His V-sign was too close to the camera ^^

Somehow his words comfort me. How a child looks past what's stereotypically classified as pretty and learns to see beauty in even the most unimpressive object. (Although, ironically, I took of my specs before taking this pic =.=)

Why do the typical eye candies you find (esp on facebook) are big-eyed, small mouthed and ultra fair?

In fact I think all my friends are beautiful. To name a few,

Mama is beautiful when she laughs.

SH is beautiful when she cowers in fear from butterflies.

BS is beautiful when her face cringes at the smell of cheese.

WY is beautiful when she speaks super, super fast.

KK is beautiful when she hollers at us to WALK FASTER!!!

CC is beautiful when she goes all shy admitting she's going out with her bf later.

LY is beautiful when she has this super obsessed look when she discovers her fav food--bread.

Swt is beautiful when she's not lying and not MIA-ing (T.T)

Chee Ling is beautiful when she starts talking and can't find her full stop *winks*

Qiuhong is beautiful when you see how much she loves God. Cheryl is beautiful when she laughs at even the lamest jokes.

Tiffy is beautiful when she's being totally feminist. (HAHA you know what I mean)
You. Are. Beautiful.

Don't believe me? Go ask a kid.

Hugs & Kisses. Gatherings & Goodbyes.

Doesn't it feel weird growing up?

Sometimes you feel it when you're chatting with an old primary schoolmate. About how sadistically-inclined some of the schoolteachers are. Or about how boys in primary school used to cry a lot. and all the time. and now they're all tall (not everyone though) and grown up. About how different everyone is now. Teacher's pets, grown-up wannabes, book nerds (mememe!!), tech geeks all finding their place in the world.

How UPSR seemed to have never existed and the word "SPM" doesn't send a shiver down your spine anymore. School rules that seem to be so unnecessary and controlling all of a sudden. (eg fringe cannot reach eyebrow level!! Socks must be above ankle!!)

How jokes you share with friends are less about cartoons/imaginary stuff and more about other people. And how vulgarity and eroticism are now equally thought to be funny.

It's also the way of carrying yourself. Just think of the times during family gatherings when we could just sit there, act bored and no one would bother. But now it's like obligation to create small talk. We have to be eloquent. Charismatic. Outspoken. Proactive. And, to some extent, pretentious.

Do I actually have to say "wah, Auntie XX... your necklace so nice ah.. where you buy one?" when I actually think it's like some Stone Age artifact? Why say something when I don't even mean it?

Sometimes it's when you realize your friends are leaving home, one by one, pursuing their dreams/their parents dreams (which are 2 different things!!). How they may never look back, or even return to your life unexpectedly.

There was a mini farewell for Tiffy at Sakae Sushi, Sunway Pyramid this Tues, with Grace & Elaine.

Tiffy, I know you read my blog so I won't get too mushy here in case people get confused about my sexual orientation (for the record I like guys! cute ones of course)

So just wanna wish you all the best in Down Under and hopefully we'll never run out of conversation for the next 50 years. And we still can laugh at the same things we do now and be wacko just because we want to.

Keep in touch and thanks a billion for all the memories! I really will miss you!!

xoxoxoxoxoxoxo (hugs and kisses Tiffy until out of breath and Tiffy wipes saliva away from cheek)

Take care...

Penang 3D2N

Actually the trip to Penang brought back lil' bits & pieces of memories from my 5S2 class trip two years ago, when we walked all the way from Gurney Drive to Hotel Continental Penang which was a whopping 4 km!!! (not the whole class la. Just 10 not-very-bright-but-overenthusiastic people.)

The 10 not-very-bright-but-overenthusiastic people

Image from Google Map (B: Gurney Drive; A: Our hotel)

So anyway this time around, we stayed at Gurney Hotel, just along the Gurney walk. It's a pretty strategic location since it's only just 10 mins walk away from Gurney Plaza (Sale is still on!! MNG up to 70% off!!) and you can "pak toh" by the gurney walk while enjoying the sea breeze... oh ya read on to find out about my boyfriend *squeals*

Our hotel bathroom. There is actually a BIG window separating the room & the toilet! And this is how it looks when you turn up the blinds... Like how cheesy is that..

Oh ya moving to the next day, where the "heng tai" (Blood brothers) of the groom try to get into the bride's house, where of course they have to get through obstacles set by the "ji mui" (sisters) of the bride first.

And gosh was it a shock for us when the groom came in a..

FRIGGIN' HORSE!!! Not pony you know, HORSE!!

Professing and declaring his love to the bride

The things you do for your friends. After he wore it he was like "wah jin jia tia le" (wah very pain le, in Hokkien. Penang ma.) NOW you know how girls feel when we get our 1st bra.

Soon they managed to enter the house, but they needed to find the key to the bride's room in a bucket full of ice...

Aww... aint that sweet... :) and note the RM 2000 dog at the left corner of the pic. He was wearing a tuxedo too, by the way

The bride(who is my cousin Li Ling!), groom & ex-racehorse

That night the wedding dinner was held at Equatorial Hotel Penang.

My sis & I camwhoring! Pretty isn't she? Don't we just look alike? (say yes say yes *puppy dog eyes*)

And finally.... the moment you've been waiting for...

1st time I'm showing off my boyfriend le...

very paiseh...

*blush*

*drum roll*

*stifled giggle*

NO LA NOT MY BOYFRIEND LA.

That's my cousin Tze Wei who's cute but just tied the knot in May last year.

Hehe guess you got all geared up for nothing =P

Me trying to get an artsy-fartsy pic of the highway on the way back

That's all for now! College starts tomorrow!! Looking forward to it ^.^

This is what boredom does to me

The holidays are boring me to the extent that I may not only rot. I may just as well grow roots and photosynthesize right at home. So my parents can eat my leaves. Okay I'm just crapping. You have to understand my mind has entered a chronically degenerative state.

The thing is, I MISS MY FRIENDS!!! I MISS COLLEGE!!! I MISS LIFE!!! (esp social life)

woo...T.T

Okay this is the start of a really poetic post. This is not me emo-ing. Or trying to shed a new skin and try to be the next Blake Lively. I really mean what I write. By the way an update on my Genting trip with college friends like 2 weeks ago :)

Friends are for discovering your...well...uh...undiscovered talent. They'll bring out the actor/actress/supermodel (or sampat-ness) in you :)

Friends are for holding on to. Whether when you've heard a weird (and super eerie!) noise coming from the hotel toilet or when you're seconds before the plunge in Space Shot. The best of friends, they'll never let go.

Friends show you how to fly. How it's never wrong to dream, even the most naive or absurd ones, 'cause having a dream is like having a reason to live ^^

Friends remind you you're never too old for something. Just a tad too heavy for it; poor purple dino :P (looks like the Jurassic Park version of barney eh?)

Friends teach you it's okay to be outrageous & melodramatic once in a while. People really can't be sane all the time =)

Friends try to be in step with one another, no matter how different their background and upbringing they may have. With just a little practice, cooperation and patience, it'll be something worth jumping for joy.

Friends cherish moments together, even on rainy days. Even when everyone's drenched to the bone.. XD

Friends share their deepest, darkest (and some erotic) secrets without holding back; because they know true friends won't be judge them from their past and embrace the fact that everyone makes mistakes...

Friends show you how to be passionate about life and how to turn every single moment into priceless memories. Sometimes it wonders me too how just a spurt of water can make us all scream in delight :)

If life is a road, I'm glad I've got friends walking me through it.

Clip 3: Hazing (def: seniors bullying new students)

Note: I DO NOT usually act like that. I'm doing it all for the sake of ART. It does not come naturally to me. I repeat, I am merely acting and this does not represent my true nature! XD

Clip 2: School Bullying

Watch it! Watch it!

Note: the polka dotted jacket gangster is usually a super ladylike gal... and she turned super gaya in front of the camera! All of us were in total shock...lol

Sorry I simply can't keep this to myself :P

My moral assignment group did some videos for the topic bullying... please watch them and tell me what you think :)

hopefully it's not some lame SS video that no one understands :(

Enjoy! I seriously love them! All of them! (but honestly I think 3rd clip the funniest^^)

Clip 1: Cyberbullying

k la i post separately; takut blogger hang :P

remember to watch ALL of them! I demand you to!

A Tribute to 5S2

This is going to be my last post before SPM… Things are getting pretty tense for all Form 5-ians and I bet all of us are going to leave secondary school with mixed feelings… This has GOT to be the saddest post I’m going to EVER write but I thought it better to write it now while the emotions are still strong (I seriously don’t care if I get all bleary-eyed after writing this post!). I will not feel the same way as I do now, in like, 10 years from now, so, here it goes:

It’s been quite a long journey since I have stepped into SMJK Kwang Hua, and I must say that the most memorable years that I have had were the last 3 years. When I was still in Form 1 and Form 2, I was kind of LOST and unsure of myself—what personality should I have? Should I change my image? What does it take to be popular? I was constantly struggling with peer pressure and the need to fit in, but after getting a B for Chinese language during end-of-year exam in Form 2, I was “degraded” to 3B class and man, was I devastated at that time!

But now, thinking back, I really got to thank God for putting me in 3B class—I had finally found where I truly belong. Comparatively, being in 3B class was less stressful and hectic, and the teachers placed less pressure on us, not like in the 1st class… My classmates were great, too, including Tiffany(links to her blog). Her straightforward attitude got me on my nerves at times (it still does!) but she would stick with me through thick and thin and put her friends before herself (most of the time, at least). *Tiffany, I know you’ll be on top of the mountain after reading this but what the heck, I must say these things before they sound too gross*… She really made me open up and I became from a very-shy girl to not-so-shy-and-sometimes-even-sampat girl… so thanks a million for making me into a better person! We may never meet again after Graduation Day, but remember that when you feel down or happy or simply anything, just give me a call or arrange an outing together… I really don’t want to lose this bonding that we have formed over 3 years!

After spending one year in 3B class, most of the students from 3B moved up to 4S2 where our bond between classmates grew stronger. There was plenty of entertainment, too. The class clowns like Woei Jye and Wey Kiat kept our schooling days so enjoyable that we would end up massaging our jaws and pressing our abdomen from all the hard laughing… Those were the days, man. Things got even better for Form 5 as pupils from 4S2 automatically entered 5S2… Besides the great friends that I had made, there were also “classic” 5S2 moments that will remain in my memory forever… We have shared so much laughter and overcome so many challenges together; it’s really hard to say it all in just one post!

Here’s my word of thanks to all the family members of 5S2:

Thank you,
· Cheryl—for laughing at my lame jokes and being willing to share your joyous and saddest moments with me, and thanks for your wonderful birthday gift!
· Tiffany—for being there for me and being the best critic in the world! Please do take care and keep in touch!
· Grace—for introducing me to God and for being such a good listener, and sorry for so many phone calls that I make to you daily! (sounds grammatically incorrect) I truly truly appreciate our friendship and we really must keep in contact! Always remember your “trademark” laughter!
· Sin Yee—for sharing your life experiences with us and being such a good “chatting” buddy… We’re both really emotionally unstable so I really do hope that both of us don’t break down during Graduation Day!
· Chee Ling—for your unbeatable “cuteness” and sense of humour… I can always count on you to brighten my day!
· Nic and Jiekai—for being the funny duo and for walking almost in the same “gaya”… Don’t act like you don’t know me 10 years from now, ya?
· Yong Wee—for taking care of my good friend when I couldn’t… and also for sending me home when we stay back in school… don’t lose the weight or not I won’t recognize you next time (no hard feelings ya?)
· See Yin, Wei Nie & Jia Ling—for sacrificing so much of your time and effort for our class magazine and also for the class song…
· Pei Wah & Wan Yee—for “tackling” Woei Jye when he says inappropriate things and being such wonderful members of 5S2…

· Sue Ann—for dedicating so much of your time teaching us the dance steps and for being the one and only “violent” friend that I have!
· Wey Kiat—for being a total drama king and making us laugh to tears! You may not have the chance to fool around in college anymore so enjoy yourself—it’s now or never!
· Jay-son—for being the sleeping god in the class… I’ll definitely remember you!
· Teck Hong—for being da BEST Ketua Kebersihan in the entire world! Thanks for all that you’ve done when I was lazy (as penolong KK) and remember to keep in touch after SPM!
· Aik Chiang and Shen Min—for being the tallest couple in the class! You guys really have a weird and wacky sense of humour!
· Wee Chun—for being the tallest guy in the class and make me look like a midget! Stop growing, will ya?
· Kai Wen—for being such a dedicated class monitor and doing all the stuff that we don’t want to do!

For those not mentioned above, it’s probably ‘cuz I don’t really know you that well but at any rate, thanks for being a part of 5S2! Things would never be the same without a single one of you!!!

5S2 of 2007, SMJK Kwang Hua, Klang--46 students met and created a bond like no other...... Thanks to everyone for making my secondary school life such a worthwhile journey; my life would not be complete without you, 5S2.

Three cheers for 5S2, the unbeatable and irreplaceable class EVER!!!
