Learning from kids

Ying Hui, my Std 1 daycare student. The 吃软不吃硬 type (threats will make her even more rebellious). Her weakness--her vanity. XD

#1 Say what you mean & mean what you say. And with that I mean every single word! Don't count on them losing out on the details/forgetting because, honestly their memory are wayyyy better than elephants.

Jian Yang, Std 1 afternoon daycare student. Same type as Ying Hui. Scolding him is not worth the try =)

#2 Shouting or scolding them out of frustration will only bring devastating consequences. Nowadays kids are pretty much capable of independent thinking. Autonomy doesn't work around here anymore! The more you tell them not to, the more they are tempted to do so. Rebellion is in their blood.

Mr Ho Li Xian, 4 yr old kindy student. Extremely inquisitive and occasionally naughty. Bright but sometimes agonized but we're totally in love with each other =)

#3 Praising them is the way to go! For my 4 yr olds, to get them to drink water, all I have to do is praise those who have finished drinking from their water bottles. I'll be like 哇, 你的脸好滑哦! (wahh, your face is sooo smooth!!!) Then everyone else will grab their bottles and guzzle down as much as they can. One girl even kept checking the smoothness of her face while she was still drinking =)

Yan Zhen, 4 yr old kindy student. Sweet gal, unlike her clone Tiffany Foo ^^ but honestly I'm not that dark!! She's just way too fair and there MUST be something wrong with the lighting *in denial*

#4 Don't treat them like kids. Literally. Their problems with friends, schoolwork etc may seem trivial to us adults, but it means EVERYTHING to them (this applies more to those kids in Std 1& above). Eg there may be a dispute between two kids and we adults will simply shake it off, like "it's nothing la. Why are you guys fighting over such a small matter?" The more you ignore their problems, the more they keep it inside of them. Some of them just end up being emo the whole morning and won't be willing to do their work, which is bad for them in the long run, too.

Anyhow, in these 6 months they've definitely taught me much! about how adults are not much different than kids. We're just bigger, that's all (in my case, not much of a size difference T.T)

(one of ) The Last Supper(s)

Meet up at Yuen Steamboat Buffet Restaurant @ Subang for lihyi's b'day...

Happy 19th, LIH YI!!! Thank you for all your cute cute antics and delicious pastry and for being an avid fan of the chinese auspicious colour--red! hehe =)

I think we were too obsessed eating ice cream to be picking out expensive seafood for the steamboat o.O

Oh ya and anyway the rest of us made a cake for lihyi too! I daresay one the the more successful cakes I've baked with my mediocre skills; so I'm pretty proud of it, and thanks to mama for the great recipe!

Green Tea Cake with Raspberry Filling
Ingredients:
A
150 g superfine flour
2g (1/4 tsp) baking powder
80g castor sugar
1g (1/4 tsp) salt

B
60g melted butter
75g (4 nos) egg yolks
60ml water
5g green tea powder

C
150g (4 nos) egg whites
100g castor sugar
1g (1/4 tsp) cream of tartar

Decoration
400g non dairy fresh cream
200g raspberry filling
5g green tea powder
some fruits

1. Combine A and mix well.
2. Add in B and blend to form smooth batter
3. Beat C until stiff peaks form
4. Gradually fold in 1/3 of egg white foam into the batter, stir gently, repeat, mix well.
5. Pour batter into 9 inch lined cake tin. Bake at 180 Celsius for 30-35 mins.

Decoration:
1. Split the cake horizontally into 3 layers, place bottom layer as base, spread with whipped cream, some raspberry filling on top. Place 2nd layer cake on top.
2. Lastly spread remaining whipped cream on top of cake. Sprinkle green tea powder on top. Garnish top with fruits.

Work starts next monday.. more kids! (and hopefully less crying XD)

Moviesmoviesmovies

Went out yesterday to 1U for kk's birthday celebration (no pics available until kk posts them on fb and I go grab them keke) and boy! I think I'm one of the few left in our group that's like really free to organise gatherings o.O

I still remembered last year we did the same thing for kk's bday too! Went to 1U for a movie =) just that last year we hid at her house underneath her kitchen counter just to surprise her... And the year before that we just gotten to know each other and didn't know each other's bdays yet, so I remembered that day she was like "Today is my b'day." Then we went "Oh! Happy b'day!" Haha so awkward.

OMG I sound like an old woman recalling the times when her hair was black, long and flowy & running around wasn't a problem o.O

It's just memories that I linger onto haplessly. What is my problem?
The Killers movie image Ashton Kutcher Katheri...
Movies watched recently:
1. Killers
Starring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher. (ASHTON KUTCHER!! showing off his abs!! that's reason enough to watch right) Watched this movie yesterday with the others but klang people were late(which includes me haha) so missed out the front part; Spencer (Ashton) is a spy who decides to quit his job after meeting the love of his life (Katherine) at Nice. 3 years later (somehow, I don't remember why) he has got 20 million bounty on his head and so practically you can see most of his friendly suburbia neighbours turn out to be gun-wielding and a**-kicking assassins. But the movie seemed kind of short for me! But then again we were late for more than half an hour, so. Haha

2. Son of Rambow
Son of Rambow
Watched on Funshion. Relatively unknown film but pretty good! About two young boys, one a classic school mischief and the other from a strict religious family who get together to film an amateur movie about the son of Rambo saving Rambo (you even get a glimpse of Sylvester Stallone in his heydays). Basically a movie about friendship and the power of dreams. Sweet, lighthearted AND ALSO co-starring Ed Westwick (who plays Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl). You get to see him flaunt his native British slang =)

Cover of "Howl's Moving Castle"3. Howl's Moving Castle (Japanese film; directed by Hayao Mizayaki)
A 2D animation adapted from Diana Wynne Jones' book that is superb simply because of Hayao Mizayaki! An awesome awesome artist but I was a bit confused with the plot though; it didn't follow the book cover to cover o.O

Okay gotta go watch more movies again! What a way to spend the holidays T.T

Missing u like crazy

OMG when I saw this pic I seriously felt a pang of misery.

Long, long, long gone were the times of lame jokes & lengthy votes for lunch & our reverberating laughter all around Inti T.T

I miss kaykay's 走快点! and the flicker of her rebonded-and-dyed hair in the hot afternoon sun

I miss wanying's adsfkwoifjwefje (cannot catch what she's saying cause her speech is almost faster than the speed of light haha)

I miss beeshuang's 我很懒惰 & how she mounts her head like a horse when she doesn't feel like doing something (haha does anyone understand what I mean? sorry it sounds so.. wrong)

I miss mama's laughter (I mean who can forget that?) and 你不觉得他很像...and 很容易折断 and 那个傻佬

I miss lihyi's helpless whimper (hahaaa but not in an offensive way) and her homecooked food!!

I miss teckhong's car (haha our means of transport to subang) and his reaction towards gossip *wink*

I miss suathoon's (almost) inaudible voice and her (almost) reckless driving!

I miss chaicheen's cry of 哇你看那个女子很瘦 when she herself is an equal (if not thinner) opponent

I miss hui lee for simply being the newcomer in our group but fitting in perfectly nevertheless!! haha

I MISS YOU.

*sobs*
